Conditions for Running the DTC
Electronic Brake Control Module in Initialization Mode
- Ignition Voltage=Greater than 8 V
- The vehicle speed is greater than 20 km/h (12 MPH).
Conditions for Setting the DTC
Symptom Byte:09
Steering Wheel Angle Sensor Signal = Not Plausible
Symptom Byte:0A
Steering Wheel Angle Sensor Signal = Constant
Symptom Byte:11
Steering Wheel Angle Sensor Signal = Out Of Range
Actions Taken When the DTC Sets
One or more of the following may occur:
- Traction/Stability Control Indicator = On
- P9 Driver Information Center Display = Service Stability Control
- P9 Driver Information Center Display = Service Brake Assist
- P9 Driver Information Center Display = Service Power Steering
- Traction Control & Vehicle Stability Control = Disabled
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
- A current DTC will clear when the diagnostic runs and passes.
- A history DTC will clear after 40 consecutive malfunction-free ignition
cycles.
Diagnostic Aids
- Check the tire inflation pressure and adjust to the tire inflation
specifications as necessary.
- The vehicle should not pull in either direction causing the steering
wheel to be off center while
driving in a straight line on a level.
- Confirm that all tires are of the proper size and the same model and
brand. If a mis-sized or nonmatching
tire model is present, inform the customer that in order for the vehicle
stability system to
function normally, tires need to have a uniform size and rolling diameter.
- Inspect the serial data circuits and connections at the power steering
control module and the
electronic brake control module. They should be free from sources of
electromagnetic interference
and the connections should be clean and tight.

Circuit/System Verification
1. Ignition = On.
2. Verify there are no DTCs set related to the following system/component: K43
Power Steering
Control Module.
Refer to:Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle
- Go to next step: If a related DTC is not set
- Verify DTC U0126, U0130, U0131 is not set.
- Verify DTC C0035-C0050 is not set. - Electronic Brake Control Module
3. Perform the following procedure/test:Steering Wheel Angle Sensor Centering
- If the repair corrected the DTC/symptom
All OK.
- Go to next step: If the repair did not correct the DTC/symptom
4. Replace the component: Steering Gear
- If the repair corrected the DTC/symptom
All OK.
- Go to next step: If the repair did not correct the DTC/symptom
5. Replace the component: K17 Electronic Brake Control Module.
6. All OK.
